Dating american bottles Free evasedrop hot chat
Bottle collecting has become a major American hobby. There are several general categories of bottles, such as historic flasks, bitters, household, and figural.Remember that, even though a bottle may not be considered valuable to us, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t others who may consider it of some value (an Ebay audience for example). And, of course, what is beautiful to you, or has sentimental value, is priceless.
If a bottle has a pontil, chances are that it was made before 1860.
For example, Olympia cans show a copyright date from well before Prohibition.
This does not mean that the can is from that year (a mistake I've seen on e Bay) but only that the label design was copyrighted then. If you see a can with "Copyright 1946" on it, then you know it does not date earlier than that.
For bottle prices from past years, see them listed on Kovels.com/Price-Guide/ ff3=4&toolid=10044&campid=5336649018&customid=bottles&lgeo=1&mpre=
With that being said, for those of you who may be new to the hobby, we’ve assembled a checklist which we hope will help give you a general idea as to the value of a particular bottle.
A pontil doesn’t guarantee that a bottle is valuable, although it’s good sign, because it generally means that it’s old.
